FV Extender by A-Creative: The blog

3.1.21: A few updates

About this release

Since the last post I’ve actually released 3.1.20 in silence because it was a very tiny fix that only affected those of you with older Chrome versions or alternative Chrome versions.

This time it’s also a minor release. The only thing fixed is the settings page which wasn’t working at all due to changes in the latest version of Google Chrome.

Some testing

Many of you have reported that FVE was hanging in certain cases. This sunday I’ve tried to test some of these cases and here are the results:

  • It hangs when a user have sent you a request and next blocked the FarmVille from his account: Today I had no problem accepting a request from a user that has blocked his FarmVille.
  • It hangs on request for enchanted flowers: This was working fine today.
  • Request for help with lonely animal: Wasn’t able to test this today.
  • It hangs at a random request and shows a white page: Got through several 100 requests today but couldn’t reproduce it.

Conclusion: Basically it works. But I think the problems have actually been there and are there. Here are the challenges:

  • Permanently slow internet connections might have a problem with FVE.
  • Temporary stability problems with your internet connection, Facebook or FarmVille might cause problems with FVE. So waiting a couple of days may result in the problems fixing itself.
  • Temporary bugs related to certain FV requests might cause problems with FVE. So waiting a couple of days may result in the problems fixing itself.

How to download – now with video guidance

To download the latest release I urge you to go to the download page and follow the download instructions which was updated in August 2012 due to Google Chrome changes.

I’ve also made a Youtube video to help you install it. Many of you will probably succeed better by following the video:

If you come back later and want to go back to this release instead of the latest you can download this specific release here and basically use the download instructions on the download page when doing it this way also.

Chrome Webshop

There is a version of FVE in the Chrome Webshop and many of you have initially installed it from there.

There is however a problem with that version. It was uploaded through a Google account that is now disabled by Google. I’ve tried to get in contact with Google to get an explanation. But they are nowhere to reach. So currently I’m not in control of that version. So I can’t update it with the latest updates. And I can’t remove it. Google could at least have done that.

So please install FVE from this website in the future through the download page:

3.1.19: Service release

I’ve promised a bunch of you a couple of bug fixes today and here it is.

Here is the changes:

  • Zynga did a couple of minor changes that made FVE hang. This is now fixed like I’ve done it before.
  • Google changed their security policies and FVE is now updated to comply with those. It wasn’t urgent to fix this since they haven’t deprecated the old policies yet. But it’s better to be secure than not to be, right ? :-)

Newsletter from new e-mail address

I’ve changed the e-mail address the newsletter is sent from. Therefore many of you might not get it due to your various spam filters that obviously doesn’t know this e-mail address: info@a-creative.dk. The change was necessary because Google for some reason closed the account related to the usual e-mail address. I’m pretty sure the e-mail address wasn’t the problem but Google don’t reply to any of my e-mails. So this is the way it’s going to be.

So basically the safest way to get this info at the moment is to follow FVE on twitter or simply read the blog when you’re in trouble. Of course you can always contact me if something isn’t working for you.

How to download

Unstability and download problems

Unstability

FVE currently seem a bit unstable. I have just today been troubled by this myself. It seems like Facebook has done some changes.

I will try to solve this in the weekend.

Download problems

Google has changed the way extensions like FVE is installed and updated inside Chrome. Therefore I have now added some new download instructions to the download page so you will know how to do this in the future. This makes the installation procedure harder but that’s how it’s going to be until I or Google finds a better solution.

FVE will not be in the Google Store before the account problems below has been solved.

Google disabled my account

With no warning and reason at all Google closed the Google account related to the e-mail address info.a.creative@gmail.com. The only reason I can figure out myself is that it must have been hacked. I’ve desperately tried to get Google to re-enable it but they haven’t “returned my call” yet.

Therefore the newsletter is now sent using another e-mail account info@a-creative.dk and this is also the e-mail account you should contact me through. But feel free to contact me in any way you like.

Important changes

First I’ll start by saying that this is not a post about a new version. But it’s very important to read it anyway to solve installation problems in the future or those you may currently have.

Installing and updating FVE has changed

Project status

Everything has been going very slow during the last couple of months. I’m still struggling to find a job so that I can use my spare time for FVE without feeling that I should be doing something else like searching for a job. But it’s not easy at all.

So currently FVE is on standby. But last I checked it worked like it supposed to and I will make the necessary fixes if needed. There just haven’t been any problems since 3.1.18. Please make sure to enlighten me if you know of any.

3.1.18: Picnic feature is now handled

FVE didn’t handle the new Picnic feature correctly even if it’s a pretty standard feature. I’ve now tried to fix FVE so that it handles features like this automatically in the future.  Let’s hope I got it right :-)

If you have trouble with this on

Actually this time I’m releasing two versions: 3.1.17 and 3.1.18.

Try 3.1.17 instead only if 3.1.18:

  • seems too unstable for you
  • and you don’t see the Facebook App Center here.

If you’re downgrading from 3.1.18 to 3.1.17 you should uninstall 3.1.18 first.
Basically I hope that the majority of you can use 3.1.18.

You should definitely just install 3.1.18 if you’re currently using 3.1.15.

FVE 3.1.17 can be downloaded here

FVE Currently hangs

Currently(started today) something is making FVE hang on some of the requests. Please be patient while I’m looking into it. I will post at least a status on this issue tomorrow.

3.1.16: Roll back

Nothing seem to work for me today and that ended hitting you as well. Version 3.1.15 which should have added support for Facebook App Center was no good. So the only thing this version does it undoing what the previous one did.

I would really like to hear from those of you with Facebook App Center enabled. Does version 3.1.15 actually work for you? or is it just my computer it works with.

The rest of you should just upgrade to this version and everything should be back to normal.

3.1.15: Facebook App Center support

I found out it was pretty simply to make FVE support the new Facebook App Center. So that’s what’s changed in this release.

It’s not necessary for you to update if you haven’t noticed any problems related to this App Center. Many of you probably haven’t got it yet.

The rest of you should definitely try installing it and also take your time to send me some feedback. I need to be sure it works 100%

3.1.12: Stability fixes

Changes in this release:

  • The “Send return gift” button don’t work on Facebook and only makes FV Extender run slower. Therefore I have temporarily disabled that FVE clicked on it. But actually I’m not sure this button has ever worked.
  • Request for showels could make FVE hang. This is now fixed and these requests are now handled properly.

Keep writing to me if you have any problems with FVE.

Facebook Appcenter

In my last post I mentioned this was on the way from Facebook. Actually it is here. It’s just not official for everybody yet. You can all get to it at this address: https://www.facebook.com/appcenter. I’ve decided to wait adding changes related to this into FVE until it is officially added to my own Facebook account. This will make it much easier for me to craft a solution that works and do it as quickly as possible.

New Facebook App Center disables FVE

I should have known that one problem doesn’t come alone. Facebook has just released a new App Center which disables FVE. I’m sure they didn’t deliberately wanted to do this. They just wanted FB to look smarter and struck FVE while doing that.

I will try to fix this Monday, and I think there is a good chance that it will be an easy fix. Expect a new post from me Monday or Tuesday.

Please notice that not all of you have this App Center yet. Including myself.

Have a nice weekend everyone.
